Census: Harrisburg-Carlisle area building permits up 69 percent

Harrisburg-area residential building permits were running 69 percent ahead of last year’s pace through April, according to the latest permit data released by the U.S. Census Bureau.

The Census today reported 514 building permits for Harrisburg-Carlisle, totaling nearly $81 million. Through April 2014, the Harrisburg area reported 304 permits worth about $60 million.

By comparison, residential permits in Lancaster and Lebanon counties, as well as York-Hanover, have been far behind last year’s pace, according to the Census data.

Lancaster County reported 21 permits through April, down from 166 in the same period last last year, while Lebanon County was at 34 compared with 87.

York-Hanover permits totaled 27 through April compared with 171 for the same period a year ago.
