Proctor & Gamble Center Begins Hiring 1,000 Workers

SHIPPENSBURG, Pa. – Hiring has started for a Procter & Gamble distribution center expected to employ almost 1,000 people when it opens in the fall. The 1.7 million-square-foot warehouse on a 183-acre site in northern Franklin County, Pa., will serve P&G’s Northeast retailers.  The facility at 9300 Olde Scotland Road in Southampton Township will be leased from Liberty Property Trust, a real-estate investment business based in Malvern, Pa. Two companies – Quality Associates and DB Schenker – will hire and employ the vast majority of workers for the distribution center, according to P&G spokesman Jeff LeRoy. Of 963 jobs in Shippensburg, five will be P&G managers who will be transferred there, LeRoy said. LeRoy said DB Schenker has been a partner at other locations and handles warehouse operations. Quality Associates is responsible for packaging and display materials. “We are in the process of opening six new distribution centers as part of a project that will revolutionize P&G’s North American supply chain to make it more customer and consumer friendly, and position P&G as an innovative leader in supply chain distribution. …. The new centers are strategically closer to population centers and major transportation networks,” LeRoy wrote in an email.

The Shippensburg warehouse has access to Interstate 81 and intermodal facilities along it. Quality Associates will hire more than 200 people as its own employees, according to Steve Bowden, president and chief operating officer of the Ohio-based company. The positions include “leadership roles like plant manager, quality manager, (human resources) manager and other professional employees, plus forklift drivers, mechanics, quality inspectors and line workers,” Bowden wrote in an email. That means the skill sets and experience desired from applicants range from college degrees to forklift certification, mechanical and electrical skills, and inspection skills, Bowden said.

Bowden said pay rates will be competitive in the local market, but did not specify what the amounts will be.
Quality Associates is working with Pennsylvania CareerLink for hiring and online applications. It also can answer questions from applicants who call 513-482-6800 or send an email to jobs@quality-associates.com.
