Bridgefest 2018 is both a hands-on workshop with an educational opportunity that is also a celebration. We are celebrating preserving this historic bridge as a heritage bridge park.
Repointing Stone Bridge Abutments at the Historic Craighead Bridge Site Wanted: 4-6 masons or apprentices that want to have a training session with LimeWorks.us and Andy DeGruchy. There is a cost for the training workshop. Masons will learn about repairing an 1880 stone abutment by removing earlier concrete repairs, assessing damage and designing strategies for the Scope of Work and Estimate for the repair to the abutments. Repointing and continuing to remove loose materials will be the task of the day. The base of the bridge is the first in the steps for preservation for this bridge. Interested students or any locals that may want to watch, listen and learn a craft can also have the opportunity to learn from master craftsmen some tried and true masonry techniques and be a part in the preservation of this historic bridge. 2:30 pm Saturday afternoon there will be a tapping and tasting Craighead Steel Truss (by donation) this is an IPA brewed by Cold Springs Brewing with hops grown on site by Zion Hop Farm! There will be food & music on site.
Other activities through the afternoon will be: Yellow Breeches Creek Fly Fishing / Casting Demonstration and Lessons by TCO Fly Shop Chain saw carving by Ablen Arbor Works Sawing/milling of salvaged logs (June Wind Storm) into live edge slabs for the Craighead Bridge project. Slabs will be available for purchase for benches, table and bar tops. Silent auction items, raffles and door prizes to raise funds for engineering and masonry restoration work.
