What is the value of Cumberland County’s clean air, water and open space? What happens to our quality of life if we continue to lose our forests, streams and wetlands? The Cumberland County Return on Environment report, compiled by the Kittatinny Coalition, demonstrates how open space is greatly contributing to the health of the local economy, as well as to a lower cost of living and improved quality of life for citizens. Highlights from the data collected in 2015 to generate the report reflect the economic value derived from Cumberland County’s natural resources, watersheds, and land: $739.1 million in annual savings for natural system services $521 million in outdoor recreation revenue $174.8 million in annual avoided expenditures for water supply, which reduces tax burdens $53.3 million in total estimated avoided healthcare costs for air pollution
