Back to list February 01, 2018 CAEDC, Leadership Cumberland & Area School Districts Partner on Workforce Development Study CUMBERLAND VALLEY, PA (February 1, 2018) – Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC), Leadership Cumberland and select Cumberland County school districts are collaborating on a study to determine if any stigma exists for students attending vocational technical schools, and if so, why? CAEDC has been working with area school districts, higher education institutions and employers to develop new curriculum that will meet current and future employment needs. Through these efforts, CAEDC will focus on Healthcare, Advanced Manufacturing and Heavy Equipment. Learn more about these specific areas here. Professionals enrolled in the Leadership Cumberland program (fellows) are developing surveys for area school district superintendents to distribute. Cumberland Valley, West Shore, and Carlisle Area School Districts, as well as the Carlisle CTE and Cumberland Perry Area Vo-Tech School, have all agreed to participate in order to provide a sample representative for the county. Parents, administrators and 5th, 7th and 11th graders in these school districts will be receiving the brief survey to fill out. Leadership Cumberland fellows will analyze the data and present their findings on March 15 at a presentation. Invitations will be sent to interested stakeholders in the near future. With the results of this survey, CAEDC will continue to work with educational institutions and employers to refine curriculum that will help high school students who wish to advance directly into the workforce or on to a technical school or a certificate program. “Cumberland County continues to be the fastest growing county in the commonwealth and employers are in need of a skilled workforce to meet their demands now and in the future,” said Laura Potthoff, CAEDC Business and Workforce Development Manager. “As the liaison between businesses and our educational institutions, CAEDC is working with strategic partners like Leadership Cumberland to provide solutions to the area’s workforce challenges.” About CAEDC CAEDC is Cumberland County’s authorized agency charged with leveraging and promoting Cumberland Valley’s economic development and tourism assets to drive growth, create jobs and improve the quality of life.
