In 2013, Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) assisted with the expansion of a new facility for Jose Dominguez’s growing Cumberland Physical Therapy business. Elite Athletic Performance and Cumberland Aquatic Center opened its new location in January 2013 along Route 11 near the boundary line for Hampden and Silver Spring townships.
With Metro Bank as the lead lender, the $1.5 million, three-party financing project, included a federal Small Business Administration 504 program from CAEDC for $62,500, which was used for equipment.
The project included a renovation of the 13,000-square-foot building that had been empty for years. After many renovation setbacks, the facility opened at a great location filling the gap between the owners other locations in New Cumberland, Hampden and Upper Allen townships.
Dominguez specializes in the evaluation and treatment of orthopedic and sports injuries. He has spent most of his 22 years practicing physical therapy in the Mechanicsburg area, and in 2002 he opened his first Cumberland Physical Therapy location with just two employees. Currently, he employs about 30 people across the four facilities.
The new facility serves clients who are rehabbing and those looking for a consistent physical fitness program. This new venture and building allowed Dominquez the space to include fitness and training along with physical therapy.
“Over the years we had noticed that our patients wanted to continue their exercise programs at our facility rather than going to a regular gym after completing their physical therapy but we did not have the space,” said Dominguez.
What sets the facility apart from a regular gym is that all members must agree to a physical evaluation and a workout plan with an assigned instructor. Clients are trained with proper techniques and the programs are supervised to help with injury prevention.
Dominguez recently shared with CAEDC, “We are pleased with the response we have gotten from the community about our new center. Over the last two and a half years we have been able to provide a unique experience for people who want to work on their health and fitness under the supervision of rehabilitation and fitness specialists. It is a pleasure to see so many people benefit from this new concept.”
