CUMBERLAND VALLEY, PA (January 28, 2021) –

The Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) in partnership with the Cumberland County Commissioners, Carlisle Area Chamber of Commerce, Mechanicsburg Chamber of Commerce, Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce, and West Shore Chamber of Commerce are supporting and celebrating restaurants throughout the month of February as Cumberland County Restaurant Month.

“Working with our county chambers and CAEDC, we hope to remind folks of just how important these local businesses are to our economy, as well as the key role they play in enriching life in our communities,” said Cumberland County Commissioner Gary Eichelberger.

“It is important too, that we encourage our residents to patronize these establishments to help ensure they survive the current challenges. After all, a return to “normal” won’t feel very normal at all, without our familiar places to enjoy good food and companionship.”

Since the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, restaurants and bars have been severely affected by limited indoor patrons, or constrained to takeout only to enforce social distancing guidelines.

There are over 300 restaurants located in the Cumberland County.

Throughout the month of February, the “Come Back Cumberland Valley” campaign will create awareness for our dining industry through advertisements and social media campaigns. CAEDC will also be releasing a CDBG-CV grant in early February, which Cumberland County restaurants are encouraged to apply for.

“We know our restaurants need support to get through the next several months, and we hope this campaign will encourage our community to continue to eat locally. Our CDBG grant will be able to help a number of locally-owned businesses, particularly those that have not received assistance elsewhere” said CAEDC CEO, Jamie Keener.

According to the Pennsylvania Restaurant and Lodging Association (PRLA), 89% of PA restaurants in October reported their total dollar volume sales were lower than the previous October (2019).

Patrons are encouraged to show their support with a checklist from ComebackCV.com and use hashtag #CVEats throughout the month.

Come Back Cumberland Valley is a campaign initiated through CAEDC, Cumberland County and the Carlisle, Mechanicsburg, Shippensburg and West Shore Chambers of Commerce to support and drive local business. Other industries like retail and attractions will be the focus of future Come Back campaigns.
