Construction on new Sam’s Club in Silver Spring Township to open soon

Sam’s Club is expected to open in the Silver Spring Commons shopping center by the end of the year, and with it will come approximately 150 new jobs to Silver Spring Township. Company spokesman Mark Scott said construction on the new store will begin “very soon,” though it’s too early to set a specific date for a grand opening. Before construction can take place, the old Lowe’s building at the planned construction site must be demolished. The store will be approximately 136,000 square feet, Scott said, and will be constructed with environmentally-friendly materials and energy-efficient fixtures, such as skylights and LED lighting. The site also will include a fuel center. “We are looking forward to building long-term relationships in Mechanicsburg and the entire region, along with contributing to the area’s economic development,” Scott said.

Sam’s Club, a membership warehouse club, employs more than 3,400 people in its 23 Pennsylvania locations. It is reportedly the nation’s eighth largest retailer. Scott said the new store will create about 150 jobs ranging from management to hourly positions, both full time and part time.

Family, individual and business memberships to Sam’s Club are $45 annually, while Sam’s Plus memberships are $100.
