Program Used: Tourism Product Development Grant
Description:
Despite facing challenges from the COVID-19 pandemic, Big Hill Ciderworks was able to complete construction and open a brick-and-mortar location for guests to enjoy their popular hard ciders, which have a flavor profile unique to the orchards and the South Mountain region. Funding provided through a Tourism Product Development Grant from CAEDC in 2019 helped Big Hill Ciderworks finish a retail space in an already existing building through the purchase of equipment and building materials as well as complete an adjacent outdoor patio. The funding provided through the grant also gave Big Hill the ability to re-allocate its own assets to pay for additional costs associated with required changes from the Pennsylvania Liquor Control Board and local codes enforcement.
Located on a farm in Gardners, and with stunning views of the surrounding landscape, the indoor taproom and retail space — combined with the outdoor patio — provide guests with a great customer experience where they can enjoy on-site consumption of Big Hill’s ciders in a comfortable and inviting year-round location.
Testimonial:
“The Tourism Grant from CAEDC made so much more possible for us and really helped us to build out our space. We were able to add the patio, finish the interior bar, and do more than what we had initially envisioned because of the help from the grant funds. It was critical in the opening of our taphouse. ” — Ben Kishbaugh, owner
