Cumberland Area Economic Development Corporation (CAEDC) is the official Destination Marketing Organization serving Cumberland County. CAEDC’s tourism efforts exist to generate visitor volume and spending by attracting business and leisure visitors, meetings or conventions and events to Cumberland Valley. CAEDC promotes Cumberland Valley as a tourist destination, attracts visitors to the area, enhances the visitor’s experience, and encourages and promotes overnight stays. Destination marketing efforts are funded by a county lodging tax that is assessed on each overnight stay in Cumberland Valley.

Since 2010, CAEDC has offered a variety of grant opportunities to Cumberland County partners to increase visitation to Cumberland Valley or enhance the visitor experience in a measurable way. CAEDC has awarded over $2.3 million to over 200 tourism grant projects.

Carlisle Sports Emporium – $51,734.29 – Utilized funding for furniture and fixture purchases to enhance their current food and beverage services at The Barn at Creek’s Bend.

Carlisle  Theatre – $223,940.67 – Utilized funding to upgrade lighting and sound equipment as part of a larger renovation project.

Central Pennsylvania Conservancy – $30,000.00 – Utilized funding for a gravel parking area with ADA parking and ADA-compliant trail to the Melester Barn along the LeTort Spring Nature Trail.

Downtown Carlisle Association – $27,221 – Utilized funding to help fund downtown Carlisle beautification projects including a visitor kiosk on Hanover Street, a community bulletin board on High Street, reproduction of the Molly Pitcher Mural, crosswalk painting, planters for Pomfret Street and the square, and 140 well gardens through C1 District.

Jubilee Cake Studio – $57,208 – Utilized funding to create Jubilee’s Mini Mansions, an indoor play area featuring ten playhouses and interactive accessories to complement their cake and cookie decorating offerings. Funding was utilized to purchase five of the playhouses.

Moon Bird Distilling, LLC – $44,324.00 – Utilized funding to complete finishing touches to a new distillery in a refurbished historic building. The award will help cover murals, tables and chairs, a tasting table, concrete leveling, sound system, tv and mounts, fans and lighting.

The Silver Scoop – $27,476 – Utilized funding to create an outdoor seating area including concrete pouring, seating/tables, and ambiance fixtures. The ice cream shop is located near Cumberland Valley High School, and will add non-alcoholic nightlife opportunities for families and traveling sports teams.

Talking Breads – $235,895 – Utilized funding for a major expansion of current market to include increased bakery, retail and seating areas, plus a new oven with increased capacity, bakery equipment and a POS system.

2023

The SpleX – $131,761 – Utilized funding to make their sports facility usable year-round by installing air conditioning to attract summer soccer camps and cheer tournaments.

Lounge 611 – $60,000 – Utilized funding to purchase fixtures and furniture for a cigar lounge in downtown Mechanicsburg, adding nightlife opportunities and attracting niche audiences from drive markets for cigar rolling and appreciation classes.

Cumberland Youth Cycling Development Pumptrack – $100,000 – Utilized funding to assist with the design and engineering services and physical construction of a bicycle pump track at Valley Meadows Park. The pumptrack can be utilized by all ages.

Dalicia Ristorante and Bakery – $29,683 – Utilized funding to open a restaurant and bakery in downtown Mechanicsburg. Funding was used to purchase an oven/flat top combo, dishwasher, hood and installation, booths and tables/chairs, a walk-in cooler, a sink, and a fryer.

Friends of Pine Grove Furnace State Park – $40,000 – Utilized funding for a 60-foot pedestrian bridge over Mountain Creek to connect the Koppenhaver Trail and Mountain Creek Trail in Pine Grove Furnace State Park, providing enhanced trail experiences.

West Shore Theatre – $100,000 – Utilized funding to support the theatre’s almost $3 million renovation project. This project was a key component of New Cumberland’s redevelopment efforts to provide an entertainment experience to complement local restaurants and shops. CAEDC grant funds were used to purchase a digital projector, theater audio, and stage and house lighting.

2024

A Good Man Productions – $48,000.00 –  Utilized funding to create a new trading card show at the Penn Harris in 2025 and 2026. The award will help cover rental fees, event insurance, table and stage rentals, marketing, guest appearances and prizes.

Carlisle Family YMCA – $15,220 – Utilized funding to assist with growing the second annual Carlisle Crush Volleyball Tournament, a three-day tournament bringing over 200 teams of all skill levels to Cumberland Valley.

2023

Big 33 – $300,000 – Utilized funding to support annual game costs for 2023-2025. The football game, coaching clinic, and other activities relocated from Dauphin County to Cumberland County, increasing overnight stays and bringing new visitors to Cumberland Valley.

2025

Williams Grove Historical Steam Engine Association – $5,819.33 – Utilized funding to replace an aging sound system on the show grounds.

2024

Carlisle Bowen Works – $10,000 – Utilized funding to replace tile flooring as part of a larger building upgrade project. The new flooring improves the appearance of the facility as well as makes it easier to properly clean and sanitize the flooring in rooms where treatments are given.

Carlisle Productions – $6,269 – Utilized funding to enhance their facility offerings to groups by installing a wireless microphone, speakers, wall-mounted TV, amplifier, and wall controller in the existing meeting room at the Carlisle Expo Center.

Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet – $10,000.00 – Utilized funding for promotional materials to use at upcoming trade shows to increase enrollment to the CPYB’s 5-Week Summer Ballet and Academic Year programs.

The Cracked Pot Coffee Shop – $9,903.00 – Utilized funding to replace aging kitchen equipment in their Mechanicsburg location.

Dickinson College Farm – $10,000.00 – Utilized funding to develop four summer events on the farm, featuring farm-to-table dinners and live music. The award will help cover a mobile stage, musical acts, sound system, lighting and marketing.

Historic Carlisle – $2,512 – Utilized funding to purchase 12 sign panels to replace faded signage on downtown Carlisle Waymarker Tour. The self-guided tour features over 30 signs highlighting historic sites in Carlisle.

Mooreland Garden Inn / Pheasant Field B&B – $3,180 – Utilized funding for two, one-day shoots for Pheasant Field B&B and Mooreland Garden Inn. These properties were not able to participate in a Cumberland Valley B&B Association photo shoot that took place in 2023. Originally, a grant had been awarded in May of 2020 to fund all of the locations, but was cancelled due to the pandemic.

Newville Historical Society – $6,330 – Utilized funding to purchase and install a new HVAC system that makes the space more accommodating for visitors during the summer and provides moisture control in their exhibit space to aid with artifact preservation.

Rich Valley Golf – $10,000.00 – Utilized funding to replace aging kitchen equipment and purchase new industrial leaf blower and vacuum.

2023

Cumberland County Historical Society – $10,000 – Utilized funding to assist with deferred maintenance to their main meeting space. This grant was part of a larger building upgrade project to ensure the facility’s utilization for future generations.

Friends of Opossum Lake Conservancy – Design and print new posters for the three kiosks surrounding the lake.

Roundtop Mountain Resort – Working with the Courtyard by Marriott, promote ski/snowboard overnight packages via Google AdWords and Facebook advertising to young families in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. markets.

Shippensburg Area Chamber of Commerce – Design and print “About Our Town” Brochures, downtown pole banners and install signs outside of the Chamber Office.

2012

Appalachian Trail Conservancy – Install interpretive signage and displays in the Visitor Information Center in Boiling Springs.

Boiling Spring Civic Association – Update and print the “A Walk Around Boiling Springs” historical, self-guided walking tour brochure.

Camp Hill Economic Development Group – Advertising for the Plein Air Arts Festival in the Baltimore MD and Washington D.C. DMAs.

Carlisle Events – Develop a marketing campaign, including landing page, in the Baltimore MD DMA encouraging visitors to take specially crafted road trips to Bike Fest, as well as to provide day trips once they are in Cumberland Valley to encourage extended stays.

Central Pennsylvania Conservancy – Design and print three informational brochures to promote the use of the Ironmaster’s Mansion for weddings, youth groups and general purposes.

Cumberland County Planning Department – Update and print Simply Moving brochure which includes all municipal parks and trails in Cumberland and Perry counties.

Shippensburg University – Install branded brochure racks in the Conference Center at Shippensburg University to provide Cumberland Valley information to conference attendees.

Timber Hill Technologies – Group various running races in Cumberland Valley into the Cumberland Valley Race Series to increase repeat visitation from participants.

2011

Mid-Atlantic Appalachian Trail Conservancy – Create and install three informational posters along the Appalachian Trail in Cumberland Valley.

Audubon Pennsylvania – Create educational materials, including a self-guided tour brochure, for group use at Waggoner’s Gap Hawk Watch.

Borough of Carlisle – Create brochure map promoting the new Carlisle Borough Bike and Pedestrian Trail.

Downtown Carlisle Association –  Create and define quadrants in downtown Carlisle using color-coded flag banners that will associate with Downtown Carlisle Association’s annual brochure.

LeTort Regional Authority – Install four interpretive signs along the LeTort Spring walking trail.

Mountain Lakes Market – Install new sign for the market and place directional signage to the market.

Perry County Council of the Arts – Update and print Rt. 15 ByWay of the Arts trail guides.

Shippensburg D.O.I.T. – Create a Civil War themed mural in downtown Shippensburg that will eventually become part of a mural trail.

Shippensburg Historical Society – Promote annual March to Destiny event through printing of brochures, place mats, posters and other collateral.

Cumberland County Historical Society –  Promotion of annual Mclain Celtic Festival.

Cumberland Valley Rail Trail – Install 15 interpretive signs along the Cumberland Valley Rail Trail highlighting the importance of the railroad and Cumberland Valley for Agricultural and Civil War purposes.

Paulus Farm Market – Print new signage for market and market events and advertising.

Shippensburg Historical Society – Purchase of program needs for March to Destiny event including website updates, tablecloths, pull ups and banners.

2010

Camp Hill Economic Development Group – Seed money for the first Plein Air Arts Festival in Camp Hill PA.

Capital Resource Conservation & Development – Support Buy Fresh, Bike Local and Geocache Bash events.

Carlisle Regional Performing Arts Center – Advertising of special packages during two events during season.

Cumberland Valley B&B Association – Update logo, website and create brochure.

Dickinson College – Support the House Divided program in creating augmented reality Civil War walking tours and training students as guides.

Hayman Farms – Seed money to sponsor and promote a rodeo at Hayman Farms.

U.S. Army Heritage & Education Center Foundation – Creation and promotion of a joint effort with the Cumberland County Historical Society and Allenberry Resort Inn and Playhouse to create a WWII-themed package to take place in conjunction with Army Heritage Days.
