Workforce Profile One of Cumberland Valley’s differentiators is our workforce. We have an available, skilled, trained and educated workforce that meets the demands of international and national developers. According to Pennsylvania Department of Labor & Industry’s October 2015 report, the county’s economy thrives from the approximately 6,000 businesses that employ about 126,947 people. Its unemployment rate is also one of the lowest in the state – 3.9 percent versus a statewide rate of 5.3 percent. This favorable employment climate is thanks in part to major employers in the government, healthcare, retail, transportation and warehousing industries that are located within Cumberland Valley. Coincidentally, many of these companies are also headquartered here, too.
