Harrisburg-Carlisle region exports reach $3B in 2013

Merchandise exports rose 5 percent to a record $3 billion last year in the Harrisburg-Carlisle metropolitan area, according to new export data from the U.S. Department of Commerce’s International Trade Administration. Harrisburg-Carlisle was one of 156 metro areas in the U.S. to export more than $1 billion in merchandise last year. It was also one of 134 area to reach record export levels. Key merchandise export categories for the Harrisburg-Carlisle area last year included computer and electronic products, processed foods, machinery, chemicals and electrical equipment. The leading destinations for exports were countries in the Asia Pacific Economic Cooperation and NAFTA, according to the ITA.
